What the connector does
The kage connector lets the AI tools you already use work from your kage identity layer. Once connected, Claude and other MCP clients can read your voice profile and recent posts, draft copy in your voice, save drafts to your kage approval queue, and send your rewrites back so the voice model keeps improving.
It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard AI applications use to connect to outside systems. Nothing publishes from the connector itself: drafts wait in kage until you approve them.
Before you start
- An active kage account. The connector is available to active kage clients and agencies. If you are not a customer yet, book a call to get set up.
- Your kage portal login. You sign in with the same email and password you use at kage-ai.io/portal.
- An AI application that supports remote MCP connectors, such as Claude on the web or desktop, Claude Code, or Cursor.
Your connector address is the same for everyone:
https://mcp.kage-ai.io/mcp
Connect in Claude
These steps work in Claude on the web and in Claude Desktop.
- Open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it kage and paste the connector address above. Check that nothing follows
/mcp, not even a period. - For authentication, choose Sign in now. For the OAuth client, keep Use Claude's published identity. Leave request headers empty.
- Claude opens the kage sign-in page. Sign in with your portal login, review what Claude will be able to do, and choose Allow.
- You return to Claude with kage listed under your connectors and its six tools visible.
Turn it on in each chat. Adding a connector does not switch it on everywhere. In a new chat, open the tools menu in the message box and make sure kage is enabled before you ask for anything.
Connect in Claude Code
Add kage from your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http kage https://mcp.kage-ai.io/mcp
Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, select kage, and complete the sign-in in your browser. Claude Code stores the session and refreshes it for you.
Cursor and other MCP clients
Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth can connect. Add a server with the connector address, and the client opens the kage sign-in page the first time it connects. In Cursor, for example, add this to your MCP settings:
{
"mcpServers": {
"kage": { "url": "https://mcp.kage-ai.io/mcp" }
}
}What each tool does
| Tool | What it does | Access |
|---|---|---|
kage_list_clients | Lists the kage clients your login can act for, with the slug each other tool uses. | Read |
kage_get_voice | Returns a client's voice profile: tone, positions, writing rules, and phrases they avoid. | Read |
kage_get_context | Returns recent published and pending posts, what performed well or poorly, and tracked topics. | Read |
kage_draft | Writes copy for a platform in a client's voice and returns it without saving. | Read |
kage_save_draft | Saves copy to a client's approval queue as needs review. Nothing publishes until it is approved in kage. | Write |
kage_record_edit | Stores the original and rewritten text of a draft so kage can refine the voice profile. | Write |
By default Claude asks before each tool call. Many people set the read tools to always allow and keep the two write tools on approval, so nothing is saved to kage without them seeing it.
If you run an agency
Sign in with your agency login and the connector covers every client in your agency. Name the client in your request, or ask Claude to list your clients first. A client who signs in with their own login only ever sees their own voice.
Things to try
Disconnecting and access
- Disconnect anytime from your connector settings in the application you added kage to.
- Sessions expire on their own. Access tokens last one hour and renew automatically while you use the connector. Renewal stops after 30 days without use.
- Revoke immediately by emailing hello@kage-ai.io. Access also ends if your kage account is paused or closed.
How the connector handles your data is covered in section 5 of our privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
Claude shows 404 Not found when adding the connector
The address has something extra after /mcp, often a trailing period. Remove it and add the connector again.
Claude says it couldn't check the server
Choose Continue anyway, then keep Sign in now and Use Claude's published identity. The sign-in step works even when the automatic check times out.
The sign-in page says the connector is for active customers
Your login is not linked to an active kage client or agency. Check you are using your portal login, or email hello@kage-ai.io.
Claude says it can't reach kage
The connector is probably switched off in that chat. Enable kage from the tools menu in the message box and ask again.
A client I expect is missing from the list
The connector shows the clients linked to the login you signed in with. Sign in with the agency login that owns that client, or ask us to check the account link.
